Pope Francis on economic inequality

Pope Francis called rampant capitalism “a new tyranny” in his first major document released as head of the Catholic church on Tuesday.

“In this context, some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” Francis wrote. “This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”

Francis also called on the rich to share their wealth, arguing that there should be a commandment that guides humans to be inclusive of all people and eliminate economic inequality from society.

For those that like to honor the Veterans

A fellow Blogger recently posted about honoring those that have "served" our country and it may have been near November 11th which is Veterans Day in the US.   I tried to insert my anti-war past in the Vietnam era but it didn't take.   I have no idea how you can honor war veterans without honoring the war itself.  I guess some people can separate the two.

Our real enemies are not those living in a distant land whose names or policies we don't understand; The real enemy is a system that wages war when it's profitable, the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it's profitable, the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it's profitable, the Banks who take away our homes when it's profitable. Our enemies are not several hundred thousands away. They are right here in front of us

Bank of America International fees upset Expats

A few days ago people started reporting they were getting new International ATM fees using Bank of America debit or credit card when there were none previously.   This prompted one Expat in Mexico to write to BoA and this is the customer service response.  Needless to say people are furious.

Thank you for your inquiry dated 11/14/2013 regarding the international transaction fee. We will be happy to assist you.

We understand your concern regarding the unexpected fee assessed on your account.

The International ATM usage fee is $5. This fee is assessed for each withdrawal, transfer or balance inquiry performed at a non-Bank of America ATM or non-Global ATM Alliance bank located in a foreign country.

In addition to the ATM usage fee, Bank of America assesses an international transaction fee for debit card transactions in foreign currency or in U.S. dollars with foreign merchants in the amount of 3% of the U.S. dollar amount of the transaction and 3% (Effective November 8, 2013) for all ATM transactions processed in foreign currency. The fee is assessed as a separate transaction fee on the posting date of the purchase or withdrawal. The ATM operator may charge an additional fee for cash withdrawals.

Please be informed that using a Banco Santander ATM in Mexico will waive the ATM operator fees or Non-Bank of America International ATM Fee of $5. An international transaction fee of 3% may apply when converting your currency..

Kindly note, using a Scotia Bank ATM in Mexico will not waive the ATM operator fees or Non-Bank of America International ATM Fee.

GOP secretly changes the rules

The GOP's little rule change they hoped you wouldn't notice

Late in the evening on September 30, 2013, the House Rules Committee Republicans changed the Rules of the House so that the ONLY Member allowed to call up the Senate's clean CR for a vote was Majority Leader Eric Cantor or his designee -- all but guaranteeing the government would shut down a few hours later and would stay shut down. Previously, any Member would have had the right to bring the CR up for a vote. Democracy has been suspended in the House of Representatives.

The Fight Remains About Obamacare

The Republicans just don't seem to understand that Obamacare is already law but keep calling it a Bill.   These morons are lost to another world and will eventually find themselves there all by themselves.

This week's government shutdown has consequences for all of us, costing an estimated $300 million each day that the government is closed for business. Many Americans have voiced their frustrations with the fallout from the shutdown on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hash tag #DearCongress. Here, Bill Moyers shares his own frustrations, admonishing the Republican Party for holding the country hostage via an irrational "ransom list" of demands — while sabotaging democracy in the process. "When the President refused to buckle to this extortion, they threw their tantrum," Bill says. "Like the die-hards of the racist South a century and a half ago, who would destroy the union before giving up their slaves, so would these people burn down the place, sink the ship." He goes on to tell us where the "reckless ambition" of the Republicans could lead us.

The Fight Remains About Obamacare - from the Red State Website

Surrender should not be an option. This fight has been and remains about Obamacare. A Republican Party fretting over polling should consider that polling will rebound in their direction with a victory. The GOP should also consider that some of the negatives in the polls are from their own side angry at their reluctance to actually fight the good fight.

Republican leaders who have never wanted this fight have tried at all costs to avoid fighting it. They have tried to wrap the continuing resolution into the debt ceiling then into a grand bargain.

Conservatives should keep the fight squarely on Obamacare.

What is most eye opening is that the Republican leaders have grown so detatched from their base that they will willingly push a medical device tax repeal on behalf of K Street lobbyists while ignoring the very people who actually vote for them.

Republicans reeling from polls should consider what the reaction of their base will be if they have gone this far and surrender with nothing — or with only a sop to special interests on K Street.

Speaker Boehner has previously said he would stop doing back room deals with the White House. He should do as he said. He should keep the government closed until Democrats agree to delay Obamacare.

City of Seattle goes insane

Public information officers for the City of Seattle have been advised they might want to avoid using the terms "brown bag" and "citizen" because some find these words offensive.

KIRO Radio's Dori Monson couldn't figure out why these words were being targeted so he asked the man that drafted the memo to the city's PIO's for an explanation.

Elliott Bronstein, with the Office for Civil Rights, began by addressing the offensiveness of "brown bag."

"For a lot of particularly African American community members, the phrase brown bag does bring up associations with the past when a brown bag was actually used, I understand, to determine if people's skin color was light enough to allow admission to an event or to come into a party that was being held in a private home."

Dori, who considers himself a pretty historically and culturally aware person, said he's never heard of this practice or association and wonders how many others have.

Bronstein also hadn't heard of it until recently, but as a white man, he said there are likely a lot of aspects to African American culture he wasn't aware of growing up.

Next, Bronstein had to clue Dori into why "citizen" should be avoided.

"A lot of people who live in Seattle aren't citizens, but they are residents," said Bronstein. "They are legal residents of the United States and they are residents of Seattle. They pay taxes and if we use a term like citizens in common use, then it doesn't include a lot of folks."

While there may have been complaints about the phrasing, Dori thinks they likely came from people who are too easily offended, and questions the city trying to accommodate all the concerns of this small percentage of people.

"I just think that this obsession with sanitizing our language for the easily offended is a silly pursuit," said Dori. "This comes closely on the heels of a law that was just implemented, I believe this last weekend, where we're changing manhole covers to person-hole covers and we can't call a fireman a fireman anymore. There just seems to be this steady trend in our region for doing this to language."

The American left is a failure

All of Chris Hedges articles and interviews are good but the heart of current concerns for this planet starts to emerge in the 3rd part of this seven part series.   Very much worth watching the whole series, finding his other videos and reading his weekly posts if you have time.  I certainly hope you do have the time.

Christopher Lynn "Chris" Hedges (born September 18, 1956) is an American journalist specializing in American politics and society. Hedges is also known as the best-selling author of several books including War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning (2002)—a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction—Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle (2009), Death of the Liberal Class (2010) and his most recent New York Times best seller, written with the cartoonist Joe Sacco, "Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt" (2012).

A self-described socialist, Hedges is currently a senior fellow at The Nation Institute in New York City. He spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent in Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. He has reported from more than fifty countries, and has worked for The Christian Science Monitor, National Public Radio, The Dallas Morning News, and The New York Times, where he was a foreign correspondent for fifteen years (1990–2005).

Rand Paul for President 2018 - WTF

What the hell is this country  thinking to even allow this asshole on the podium.   This guy is way right of the Tea Party.    Just look who he hired as an aide -- Jack Hunter

Jack Hunter, the self-proclaimed “Southern Avenger” who made the leap from radio shock jock to Rand Paul aide, announced his resignation Monday amid heightened scrutiny of his previous career as a champion of neo-Confederate ideology.
Rand Paul aide resigns over neo-Confederate ties despite senator’s support

And here's another .....

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has been leading an earnest—if sometimes awkward—effort to court black voters in the wake of President Obama’s re-election. It was a stretch to begin with, but Paul’s outreach campaign crashed into a wall on Tuesday as news emerged that a staffer is neck-deep in neo-Confederate ideology.

Jack Hunter joined Paul’s staff in 2012 as a social media aide and previously worked on one of Paul’s books. But as the conservative Free Beacon reports, he’s also a former shock jock who went by the moniker “the Southern Avenger” and wore a Confederate flag mask to events.

Rand Paul can’t understand why black voters don’t vote GOP. Here’s a clue

Monsanto killing our bees?

Shortly after 50,000 bees were found dead in an Oregon parking lot, a staggering 37 million bees have been found dead in Elmwood, Ontario, Canada. Dave Schuit, who runs a honey operation in Elmwood has lost 600 hives. He is pointing the finger at the insecticides known as neonicotinoids, which are manufactured by Bayer CropScience Inc. This also comes after a recent report released by the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) that recorded its largest loss of honeybees ever.   The European Union has stepped forward, having banned multiple pesticides that have been linked to killing millions of bees.

Can we really debate this much longer? The evidence linking pesticides to bee deaths is overwhelming. It’s not only bees, but an array of other insects as well. The last thing we need is more events to occur that companies can use to push the manufacturing and development or more genetically modified foods. One reason that has been used for justification of GMO’s is a food shortage, and we all know how critical bees are to our food supply. There is a huge conflict of interest here, the pesticides used to spray the crops that are killing the bees are developed by biotech corporations such as Monsanto.

Whistleblower Behind the NSA Surveillance Speaks Out

Published on Jun 9, 2013
Full Interview Released on June 9, 2013 - The 29-year-old source behind the biggest intelligence leak in the NSA's history explains his motives, his uncertain future and why he never intended on hiding in the shadows. The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.

The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. "I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong," he said.

Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations -- the NSA. READ MORE: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/...

Republican Texas judge orders lesbian couple to live apart or lose children

Hello Fricking America

Republican Texas Judge has ordered a lesbian couple to live apart or give up custody of their children. According to Think Progress, Judge John Roach of McKinney, Texas has given Page Price 30 days to move out of the home she shares with Carolyn Compton and Compton’s two children from a previous marriage because he does not approve of Compton and Price’s “lifestyle.”
Roach has placed a “morality clause” in Compton’s divorce papers, which forbids Compton from having anyone she is not related to “by blood or marriage” in her home past 9:00 p.m. if the children are present. Same sex marriage is illegal in Texas, so by law, Compton cannot live with Price if she wishes to retain custody of her children.

Do the Math: A Movie to Spark a Movement

Do the Math: A Movie to Spark a Movement

The fossil fuel industry is killing us.

They have five times the amount of coal, gas and oil that is safe to burn -- and they are planning on burning it all. Left to their own devices, they'll push us past the brink of cataclysmic disaster -- life as we know it will be irrevocably altered forever. Unless we rise up and fight back.

Do The Math chronicles follows the climate crusader Bill McKibben as he works with a rising global movement in a David-vs-Goliath fight to change the terrifying math of the climate crisis.

This growing groundswell of climate activists is going after the fossil fuel industry directly, energizing a movement like the ones that overturned the great immoral institutions of the past century, such as Apartheid in South Africa. The film follows people who are putting their bodies on the line the Keystone XL Pipeline and leading universities and institutions to divest in the corporate polluters hellbent on burning fossil fuels no matter the cost.

Baby Bieber Busted

Think maybe it's time to throw this little self important baby in jail like some of the other spoiled Hollywood kids.   Where the hell are his parents or at least his managers.  Someone put a collar on him, please!

Justin Bieber will be prosecuted for allegedly spitting on and threatening to kill his 47-year-old neighbor outside his home in Calabasas, California. The neighbor had confronted him about "reckless driving," the report claims. If true, perhaps Bieber wants to show the world that he's also reckless when not driving.

In another incident a witness reports ... “It was absolutely outrageous,” Zine told NBC. “Horrific. They were driving with complete disregard for people and property, weaving in and out of traffic. I was heading in an easterly direction and this car came by me at least 100 miles per hour.   Avoiding paparazzi was his excuse.

Justin Bieber can't seem to catch a break. After having to leave his pet monkey behind in Germany, the star reportedly didn't have any better luck in Austria. The 19-year-old star has now been banned from Passage club in Vienna, Austria. The Austrian Times reports that the club's managers claim the singer's bodyguards smashed fans' cameras, as well as destroyed the cellphones of other patrons. "Justin Bieber is no longer welcome here," club manager Joachim Bankel told the paper.

Idiot Mr Bean retires

Thank god this idiot won't be making any more pictures. He's quitting because he thinks a 57 year old shouldn't be acting childish. He's been making these damned movies since the 80's and I think he quit because he has enough money. I guess there are a few adults that appreciate his humor aimed at 5 year old's but please don't let me meet one. I would hardly know about this guy except our movie channel has been advertising one of his movies this coming weekend. Gag me!

For a man that wants to act more like an adult he obviously can't drive like one. Below is a foto of his $650,000 McLaren that he wrecked with obvious disregard for the results.

The Wicked Witch of Melaque

This very unhappy woman has mental problems and seems totally unaware she has them.  Spewing her hatred in public as though people can't see right through her.  It's really sad people can't enjoy their retirement relaxing and enjoying such a pleasant place as Melaque, Mexico - but this one can't.  She's been stalking me for the last few years and it's impossible to follow her logic why ... because she either lies or bends the truth to the point of being rediculous.   Just after I saw her last attack this morning I noticed the cartoon below, which does not really fit but the bit about "good thoughts can't be ugly" sure does

Here is the message board post she made last night at 3:30 in the morning and made her last of 4 Edits at almost 6 in the morning.   She must have insomnia along with her other problems.  Elke Gasvoda is a very sad case.

must be an IMPOSTOR - according to Sparks - he does NOT drive at night. Sparks lived with Shoe while his house in Pinal Villa was being built and couldn't be bothered to drive after dark! When Shoe couldn't breathe and needed medical attention, he called us and Vern drove Shoe to Echauri Hospital in Manzanillo, because Sparks wouldn't drive at night.
Shoe died the next morning at 11 AM...
So - could not have been Sparks, taking those photos and posting them - he doesn't drive in Mexico after dark.

The NRA opposing background checks

The NRA’s pathetic excuses for opposing universal background checks.

Fourteen years ago, Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, told Congress the NRA supported “mandatory instant criminal background checks for every sale at every gun show.” Now, despite several recent mass shootings, the NRA opposes such background checks, not just at gun shows, but for any seller other than a federally licensed firearms dealer. Why does the NRA, which claims to represent only “law-abiding” Americans, oppose such a requirement? In the last two weeks, LaPierre and NRA President David Keene have offered multiple excuses. Here’s the list.

Growing hemp in the USA again

A Growing Trend

With recreational marijuana now legal in Colorado, small-scale pot shops will open up soon in places like Denver and Boulder. But that's not the only business that could get a boost: Large-scale commercial farmers may also be in line to benefit.

In the eyes of the federal government, growing cannabis is a violation of the Controlled Substances Act. Special Agent Paul Roach of the Drug Enforcement Administration says federal law does not distinguish between hemp and marijuana.

"It really doesn't matter whether it looks different or it looks the same," he says. "If it's the cannabis plant, it's in the Controlled Substances Act and, therefore, enforceable under federal drug law."

The Department of Justice says it's reviewing the legalization initiatives approved in Colorado and in Washington state. For now, the United States is the only industrialized country that bans hemp.

DemocracyNow.org - This year's Sundance Film Festival includes 28 feature-length documentaries from the United States and around the world, covering subjects including the story of WikiLeaks, abortion, the Egyptian revolution, immigration, covert U.S. wars, and many more. All five of the films nominated for the 2013 academy award for best documentary have premiered at Sundance -- "5 Broken Cameras," "The Gatekeepers," "How to Survive a Plague," "The Invisible War," and "Searching for Sugar Man." We're joined by Cara Mertes, director of the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and the Sundance Documentary Fund. "We're supporting a global, independent documentary movement," Mertes says.
